Popy

Popy has adjusted very well to our family and has already brought all of us much joy. There was no real houstraining needed even; not a single accident in the house. I took him to the vet shortly after adoption for some skin issues and he was put on steroids, which seemed to make him not feel so good. He’s finally off them and his personality is really starting to come out now. He tries to run 40mph in our rather small dining room from time to time which is truly a sight to behold (apparently the space around our dining room table makes a good dog track)! He adores our children and any other children he encounters and cries if I don’t let him greet every child he sees. Everyone who has met him has remarked on how handsome and calm he is. He begs to ride in the car most days.
He’s had to adjust to living with four cats with an established social hierarchy. Some of the cats aren’t bothered by him and some others hiss at him regularly. No bad encounters though and he appears to be “cat-safe”, if for no other reason than our cats seem to think it’s fun to boss around a dog 8 times their size. He keeps me company while I work from home each day and tries to steal things from around the house on a regular basis... Socks are a favorite, among other things that are soft. Luckily we haven’t taught him to go up and down stairs so he can’t filch the kids’ stuffed animals.
Overall we couldn’t be more pleased to have Popy as part of our family now. It’s hard to imagine our lives before him. We’ll continue to update as his personality emerges even more over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve taken Popy back up to the big yard at the shelter to run around but he never runs when we take him up there! The big joke is that we have a greyhound that refuses to run....

Popy is one of the first dog you see when you walk in the kennel and he is usually flopped out on his back in a "roach" position - too cute!  He's very expressive - a real character!
