<- Back to Happy Tails
Zack was adopted by the family that adopted Zeus (was Aven)
"Zack is the perfect greyhound. He and Zeus get along perfectly; they will even lick the same bowl out together. Zack is wagging his tail and playing. He is still a shadow of Zeus but each hour of the day brings him more and more out of his shell. No accidents at all and he lets us know he wants to go out. (So maybe Zeus could learn from him too.) Caitlin tells me they walk beautifully together with the leach coupler. We leave crate doors open all day and Zack spends a good deal of his time roaching out with his front legs sticking out of the crate. It is the funnniest thing. Zeus seems happy to have another hound in the house. We love our 2 house hounds! "
I have been in my forever home for just over a month, and I think I am adjusting well to being a “house hound.” Let me tell you a bit about my new life.
I remember telling my new mom I would not counter surf, but I have a few times. Honestly, I did not know what a counter was. Now that I know, I do not counter surf anymore. Mom made a huge batch of hound cookies the other day and left them on the counter to cool. They smelled sooooo good - peanut butter, but I did not touch any of them.
I love the garbage though and cannot seem to stop garbage picking. I don’t know what comes over me….. Humans throw out the best things. I got a cheese stick wrapper the other day and brought it to my crate. I also got a four sack and took it into the living room to enjoy. I love to chew on paper and cardboard. I steal empty cereal boxes and the daily paper. I try to wait until mom and day have read the paper. Mom’s tote bag is a gold mine too. She works long hours so there is often left over snacks inside. There are papers and yarn too. A couple days a go I found a bottle of Advil, Tylenol, and Aleve in her bag. It was just the right size for a hound mouth and it rattled nicely. Dad said I had to leave the medicine alone; if I needed medicine, they would give it to me. Mom said something about it being like having a toddler in the house and now puts her tote bag up where I can’t reach it. I played with mom’s knitting the other day. I just wanted to see how it was done, but then the bamboo needles smelled so good, I took a bite. Just so you know, they do not taste as good as they smell; I tasted two of them just to be sure. I just like to explore new things, and my crate is the best place to do that. They clean my crate out of its treasures on a regular basis.
Mom likes to go for walks; and I do too but….. She has this 2 mile trail that she likes to do everyday. Would you please tell her I was not the racer; I was the flunk out. She says we have been working up to the 2 miles, but I have been working up to a nice long nap on the elevated bed. I have a nice jacket the even covers my tummy so that stays warm. Mom got matching ones for me and Zeus. They are very cozy.
We have lots of toys. We even have our own toy basket. I like chew toys and soft ones. Zeus always steals the new toys. He takes both of them. Mom always gets up each a new toy. I got my soccer ball back from Zeus the other day and growled at him when the tried to steal it again. I am learning to stand up for myself, (to Zeus, but not the kitties; they scare me.)
Mom says she will send pictures soon. I have put on a few pounds and now weigh 78 pounds. Mom is talking about taking us to the greyhound wine tour this summer. It combines two of her favorite things: greyhounds and wine. I am so happy to be in my forever home. I miss you and the others from the kennel, but this is just so relaxing. I have my crate, but we have an open door policy except at night. I can come and go as I please. My crate is even accessorized - I have a little black kitty that sleeps on the top of my crate.
